Biography
Mr. Wu Guilin, a Canadian citizen serving as Director and Downstream COO, is an accomplished technologist and industry expert with a unique background that bridges academic research and industrial innovation. Prior to entering the resource and metals sector, he built a distinguished academic career as an educator and researcher at several leading institutions, including Dalian University of Technology, China Institute of Metrology, Tsinghua University in Taiwan, the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Ottawa in Canada. He also conducted applied research at the Liaoning Nonferrous Metals Research Institute. His work focused on advanced technologies such as laser spectroscopy, fiber optic sensors, LED lighting, OLED displays, and solar panels, resulting in numerous publications and patents.
In 2007, Mr. Wu transitioned into the laterite nickel ore smelting industry. Over the years, he has conducted extensive field research in countries rich in lateritic nickel resources—including the Dominican Republic, Zimbabwe, Cuba, Australia, New Caledonia, the Philippines, Madagascar, and South Africa—developing a deep technical understanding of global smelting technologies and ore profiles.
In 2008, Mr. Wu co-founded the Asia Pacific Organization of Lateritic Nickel Ore (APOL), a non-profit platform for technological exchange and industry collaboration. He served as Secretary General and Vice Chairman of the Expert Committee and currently holds the position of Vice President. Within APOL, he has played a key role in advancing knowledge of smelting methods such as RKEF, direct reduction, oxygen-enriched side blowing, acid leaching, and various nickel matte production techniques.
Since 2013, Mr. Wu has advised multiple listed companies operating smelting facilities in Indonesia. He possesses strong expertise in Indonesia’s mining regulations, industrial policy, talent development, and investment strategies. In 2020, he joined PT ATSM, part of Neo Energy Group, where he leads the downstream development of the Group’s nickel business, including smelting and related industrial growth initiatives.
